When I got the chance to join Rose and Lee for their beautiful elopement in Sequoia National Park, I knew it would be something special. Initially, I wasn’t the main photographer for the day—my friend Alvis Pham had that role—but he graciously let me come along. I had just gotten my hands on the Canon R5C, and this elopement gave me the perfect opportunity to shoot in RAW video and explore the capabilities of my new setup.
A Day of Creative Freedom
With no specific deliverables promised, I had the freedom to experiment, capturing the day exactly as it unfolded. This kind of creative freedom is rare, and it gave me the chance to focus on the details and moments that really stood out. Rose and Lee were incredibly easygoing, and since the event was a private affair, the entire day felt personal and relaxed.
We started off with some getting-ready shots of the couple in the early hours of the day, followed by a journey through Sequoia National Park. The couple had selected several stunning locations, all within easy driving and walking distance. The first stop? The iconic Sequoia Redwoods, where their intimate ceremony took place. The towering trees set the perfect backdrop for this beautiful moment, and the natural beauty of the park really shone through in the footage.
Exploring Sequoia National Park
After the ceremony, we ventured deeper into the park, stopping at a fallen tree for some additional shots. From there, we made our way to the serene meadows and ended up at a breathtaking lookout point near Sequoia’s community center. The sweeping views from the top of the park were incredible, offering a perfect backdrop for more footage of Rose and Lee as they embraced the day together.
Since the couple chose to keep their elopement private, it was just us—no guests, no distractions. We spent the rest of the day driving through the park, exploring its natural beauty and capturing raw, candid moments. The result is a collection of video footage that truly captures the essence of their intimate adventure.
A Private Affair in Sequoia
Spending those five to six hours after the ceremony with just the couple allowed us to connect on a deeper level, which made the final video even more special. It was more than just an elopement—it was a day of discovery, love, and adventure, all captured on film.
For anyone planning their own Sequoia National Park elopement, this day with Rose and Lee shows how beautiful and meaningful a private elopement can be. The natural surroundings, the intimacy, and the freedom to explore at your own pace make it a truly unique experience.
